I quit the Politics board

Posted by Andrei-Ulmeyda Jan. 17, 2008 @ 8:37 PM EST

I may not have posted there very much, but I've been observing and viewing it for quite some time.

However, I started noticing a change in myself whenever I visited the board. I grew angry, and vicious thoughts started entering my head almost every time I entered a new thread. This seemed to occur for various reasons: disagreement with a poster, marveling at other's stupidity, and the general douchebaggery of cellardoor/Grammer/Muscian/Roffel/whoe ver was opening their mouths at the time. The board seems to bring out the worst in people, and as a result, about 90% of the people there are incapable of saying anything remotely intelligent before insulting and flaming anyone who disagrees with them.

Recently I started actually posting on the board, and almost every topic I posted in ended up the same state as described above. Then just last night, a terrifying thought entered my mind: "What if I end up like them?" I thought maybe I'd be able rise above it, and maybe be a polite, kind, conscientious poster. But with the anger seemingly growing more prevalent with each topic, it seemed it would only be a matter of time before thought became action.

So for the sake of my mental health, I'm leaving the board. No more lurking, no more posting, I'm not even going to enter it anymore. There are far better things to do than lose my mind over some political internet squabbling.

Farewell, Politics board. I hardly knew you, and you hardly knew me, and I'd like to keep it that way.
